I've received a comment to an older post which says that Jay McShann has died - I just checked his web site and apparently he passed away on December 7. A truly great man,whose life spanned the breadth of the music and who was still recording recently - condolences to family and friends. I'll see if I can dig out some music in tribute later on...

At my library they have a wonderful CD of his appearance on the Marian McPartland show. She seems especially awed by his left hand: "So strong."
Her show is certainly very good - I've seen a few clips here and there... just checked and I see she has Matthew Shipp coming up - and she is two years younger than the late Jay, an English girl originally and still going strong.. oddly enough, her husband Jimmy was one of the Condon crowd and I'm featuring some of old Eddie's music very soon...
